Maine SGNA is a professional organization of GI Nurses and Associates. Our members work in GI labs in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and ambulatory clinics. We have over 45 members who are RN’s, LPN’s and Endoscopy Technicians. We live and work throughout the state of Maine.
Our goal is to improve the practice of GI Nursing and Endoscopy. We work toward that goal by offering two educational conferences and two dinner meetings annually in various locations. In addition, scholarships are given to members who attend the National SGNA Annual Course in May. Our web site provides our membership with the latest information on MSGNA and GI-related topics.
Bylaws are set forth by SGNA, our national organization. MSGNA is governed by a Board of Directors and Officers who are elected by the membership. A Membership Chair, Education Chair, Nominations and Elections Ballot Chair and Website Administrator also attend board meetings. Meetings are held 4-5 times a year.
MSGNA members are involved in heightening public awareness of colorectal health and screening procedures. In the past, MSGNA has conducted statewide research projects surveying results of Colonoscopy vs. Flexible Sigmoidoscopy for colon cancer screening. We have spoken to community groups about the need for colon cancer screening and Colorectal Cancer Awareness posters were developed and distributed to physician’s offices.
Our members celebrate our profession every year on National GI Nurses and Associates Day. We get together for a dinner meeting or mark the day in our workplaces.
