The Martha Mita Educational Scholarship

The Maine SGNA is proud to announce the establishment of the Martha Mita Educational scholarship. This scholarship will be used by the applicant to defray the costs of attending the SGNA Annual Course. The Officers and Board of Directors of the Maine region will review the applications and choose the successful applicant. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who meets criteria established by the Officers and Board of Directors of Maine SGNA and demonstrate Martha’s long-standing support of continuing education and GI Nursing.

Policy
Maine SGNA may award this educational scholarship to members annually to help defray the costs of attendance to the SGNA Annual Course. This scholarship will be awarded to the member who meets the eligibility criteria. These criteria are based on Martha Mita’s long-standing devotion to continuing education and the practice of GI Nursing.

Objective
The Martha Mita Educational Scholarship has been established to financially assist Maine SGNA members attending the SGNA Annual Course.

Procedure
The scholarship has been established for Maine SGNA members practicing GI nursing for at least two years who have demonstrated resourcefulness and attention to continuing education. The applicant will write an essay answering why he/she wants to attend the Annual Course, and how he/she will use what he/she learns to improve his/her practice.

Applicants who apply for the scholarship should be available to attend the Annual Course that year and is not transferable. Proof of attendance in the form of SGNA Continuing Education Contact Hour Certificate, with at least 12 CEU’s, will be required for reimbursement and should be submitted to the Maine SGNA Treasurer within 60 days of the course.

Conference expenses will be reimbursed to the applicant up to $1500.00.

Applications are available from any Maine SGNA officer or board member and on the Maine SGNA website. Successful applicants will be ineligible to re-apply for a five year period.

Any individual interested in applying for this educational scholarship must submit completed application via email to the Maine SGNA Treasurer by January 1st. The individual chosen to receive the scholarship will be announced at the Spring Maine SGNA conference, and the award will be presented in person, if the applicant is in attendance.

The Martha Mita Educational Scholarship and SGNA Annual Course attendance is based on honesty, integrity and accountability.

Criteria for application

1) Maine SGNA Member.
2) Practicing GI Nursing presently and for at least the past 2 years.
3) Demonstrates interest in continuing education by supplying list of seminar/class attendance.
4) Write a brief essay explaining why you want to attend the SGNA Annual Course and how it will improve your practice.

Application should be submitted via email to Maine SGNA Treasurer by January 1st to be considered. Expenses will be reimbursed up to $1500.00 for the successful applicant. Proof of conference attendance within 60 days of course will be required for reimbursement.
